Termination Policy

The Termination Policy was created in 1953, and lasted until 1968. The policy was to grant Native Americans all the rights and privelages of citizenship. This policy said that the government didn't have control over the tribes. The tribes had normally been excluded from state laws and taxes, but they would now have to abide by them. Many of the Native American lands were taken over by the federal government. Education was also greatly effected. In the Menominee tribe, there was a 75% drop out rate. The reason this all happened was because because the federal government didn't want to keep funding the tribes. The Natives also lost health care from the government.
